Argentine presidential general secretary Cristina Kirchner, Alberto Fernandez, emerged from the general primaries in Argentina as the strongest presidential candidate.

The candidate of the movement Frente de Todos came yesterday (local time) after counting almost 90 percent of the vote to about 47 percent, clearly defeating the incumbent President Mauricio Macri.

The former head of state Kirchner, who has been involved in a number of corruption cases, is applying for the office of Vice President alongside Fernandez. The mandatory primaries are considered an important test of sentiment for the presidential election in October.

Macri and his movement Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change) achieved about 32 percent of the vote. „It hurts me not to have the support we had hoped for,“ Macri said in the motion camp headquarters. „That commits us to step up our efforts tomorrow.“
