According to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey wants to send troops to Libya to provide military support to the government. A corresponding law will be submitted to the Turkish parliament in January, Erdogan said today. Libya, which has been suffering from a civil war since 2014, has invited Turkish troops and the invitation will be accepted.

Erdogan had already agreed on Sunday to provide more military support to the UN-recognized government of Libya headed by Fajis al-Serradsch. Ankara was said to examine the possibilities of ground forces, air force and navy. Turkey is thus standing up to Russia and Egypt, which militia leaders Chalifa Haftar are supporting with their Libyan national army. This controls the east of the country.
