Climate protests based on the example of Swedish activist Greta Thunberg are scheduled to take place in more than 1,000 cities next Friday. To date, rallies in 1057 cities in 89 countries are planned, as evidenced on Monday from a list of the global network #FridaysForFuture.

In Germany alone about 140 protests are scheduled – more than in any other country this Friday. Among the cities are metropolises such as Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, but also smaller cities such as Rastede, Elmshorn and Seligenstadt.

The organizers of #FridaysForFuture want to launch on Friday as comprehensive international school strikes for the climate as never before. That’s why they have proclaimed a Global Strike For Future.

The protests are based on the school strike by Thunberg, which began in August 2018 to demonstrate in front of the parliament in Stockholm for a stronger use of Sweden against climate change.

Thousands of students have followed their example ever since. The 16-year-old herself wrote on Twitter on Monday: „89 countries and 1057 places! Can we make a hundred by Friday? »
