After the protests against President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the Egyptian authorities arrested more than a thousand people, according to human rights organizations. The Egyptian Center for Freedoms and Rights said today that since Friday there have been a total of 1,003 arrests. The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights even said 1,298 arrests.

Hundreds of people had demanded the resignation of head of state Sisi on Friday and Saturday in Egypt’s rare protests. There were clashes with the police, which used some tear gas against the demonstrators. Egyptian businessman Mohamed Ali, who lives in exile in Spain, sparked off protests over allegations of corruption against the president. Ali called for another visit to the streets next Friday.
