According to a media report, significantly fewer refugees from Turkey came to the EU in the first nine months of this year. „The number of arrivals from Turkey to the EU in 2020 is 14,579“, quoted the „Welt“ (Tuesday edition) from a confidential situation report by the EU Commission and the European External Action Service.

The decrease compared to the same period last year (48,554) is 70 percent according to the document. 11,921 people to Greece, 2,334 to Italy, 35 to Bulgaria and 289 directly to Cyprus by boat. The EU border protection agency Frontex had already reported a sharp decline in irregular border crossings on the eastern Mediterranean route in the period from January to September.
