Wolfgang Tiefensee demands course corrections from his party. The Thuringian SPD chairman apologized for mistakes in the past and demands a minimum wage of twelve euros per hour from 2021, Hartz IV reforms and a wage supplement of ten percent for temporary workers.

hüringens SPD chairman Wolfgang Tiefensee has apologized to the voters for wrong decisions of the SPD. In some social issues, the party has in the past strayed from the path, said Tiefensee on Saturday at a state party conference in Arnstadt.

„Errors must be corrected.“ Tiefensee demanded inter alia a political decision to increase the minimum wage to twelve euros per hour from 2021, Hartz IV reforms and a wage supplement of ten percent for temporary workers from the first day of their use.

Tiefensee re-elected

Tiefensee: „We have to grow, not only in the surveys, but also in our work.“ He was subsequently re-elected as the country’s chairman of the SPD. The former mayor of Leipzig and Federal Minister of Transport received 89.5 percent of the vote.

The 63-year-old, who belongs to the red-red-green state government in Erfurt since 2014, had taken over the presidency in March. At that time he was elected with 78.5 percent of the vote. Tiefensee had taken over the state presidency after Erfurt Lord Mayor Andreas Bausewein had left office in early 2018.

Bad poll numbers

In a representative survey published on Friday by the polling institute Insa for the Thuringian newspapers of the Funke media group, the SPD came to 12 percent. This corresponds approximately to the level of the state parliament election in 2014, when the Social Democrats recorded their worst result since reunification with 12.4 percent. The SPD is in Thuringia junior partner of the left in a red-red-green coalition.
