As the new Prime Minister of Ukraine, 44-year-old Denys Schmygal is said to lead the country out of the crisis. The economist received 291 votes in the Kiev parliament today. 226 would have been necessary for his choice. 59 MPs voted against him.

Schmygal, who comes from Lviv in western Ukraine, promised to pay special attention to the problems of „industrial production, the agricultural industry and social issues“. Previously, predecessor Alexei Goncharuk had been dismissed from parliament at the head of the government after just six months at his own request.
